Jim O'Brien's Rock Skool Comedy Show ran weekly at the Friars Club of
California
in Beverly Hills from December 7, 2002 through Nov 22, 2003.
Jim O'Brien developed, produced, and hosted
this hilarious show. He performed his stand-up
comedy and funny songs as the "Headmaster of Rock Skool" -
sometimes leading a full band!
Special guest acts included musical comedians
and other variety artists like
Bill "Dead Puppies" Frenzer, The Hollywood Accordion Club, Tim
Reilly and Dusty Floors,
Steve Goodie, and a lot of famous, legendary, and not-yet
famous comedians.
The first shows took place in the Main Dining Room at the Friars, but
moved upstairs to the
purpose-built Sid Caesar / Red Buttons Celebrity Lounge when the show
quickly gained popularity.
A full bar and a specially designed light dining menu was offered.
The lovely Rock Skool Girls served an infamous complementary Rock Skool
Bag lunch.
(Warning - the "pot" brownies contained NO pot)
Part rock concert, part comedy show, and part performance art, Jim
O'Brien's Rock Skool
Comedy Show was transformed into "The Young Friars
Comedy Show" in early 2004 by Jim and his fellow Young Friars.
Shortly after that, the Friars Club of California was sold into private
ownership
after more than 55 years as a member-owned club. It is now operated
as
The Friars of Beverly Hills. This forever solidified the status of
Jim O'Brien's Rock Skool
Comedy Show as the longest continuous running show in Friars of
California history.
Jim O'Brien is still performing
"The Jim O'Brien Experience" Comedy
Show...
